Platform Resolution Submissions
A resolution on matters of public policy, if passed, becomes an appendix to the adopted platform. It does not get incorporated into the body of the platform. To suggest a change (an amendment) to the platform one needs to fill out the Convention Motion Form, submit it to the secretary, and make the motion from the floor. But this can only be done if the motion to adopt the draft platform as written fails.
Resolutions are independent, stand-alone documents that are addressed and voted on only after a platform has been adopted. Here is a sample resolution:
Convention of States
Whereas, Congress has failed to institute needed constitutional revisions in the form of amendments to control the growth and power of the Federal Government; and
Whereas, the US Constitution provides for an alternate method of amending the Constitution in Article V; and
Whereas, the Federal Government has become bloated and assumed power over the states, which was never intended by the Founders; and
Whereas, the government that is closest to the people governs best; and
Whereas, the Convention of States agenda can be controlled and limited to a set of meaningful amendments; now therefore
Be it resolved that the Benton County Republicans urge the Washington State Republican Party to support the call for a Convention of States per Article V of the United States Constitution.
